Quick Facts
· Extraction Method: Steam Distillation
· Part Used: Leaves and Flowering Tops

The Profile
Sage, often called Common Sage or Dalmatian Sage, is one of the oldest medicinal herbs known to man, with a name derived from the Latin salvere, meaning "to save" or "to heal." The aroma is robust, earthy, spicy, and camphoraceous with a sharp, clarifying edge. Unlike the gentle Clary Sage, Common Sage is a chemical powerhouse high in thujone and camphor. Historically, it was revered by the Romans and Greeks as a sacred herb for longevity and memory. In aromatherapy, it is respected as a "master herb" for its potent ability to purify both physical environments and the human mind.
Therapeutic Actions
Antibacterial, Antifungal, Anti-inflammatory, Antispasmodic, Astringent, Carminative, Digestive, Emmenagogue, Febrifuge, Hypertensive, Stimulant (memory), Tonic.
Usage & Benefits
· Memory & Focus: The "Brain Tonic." Sage is scientifically noted for its ability to sharpen the senses and improve cognitive function. It is a go-to for clearing "brain fog" and enhancing memory retention.
· Skin & Scalp: Excellent for oily skin and acne due to its astringent properties. In hair care, it is used to cleanse the scalp and is a traditional remedy for supporting healthy hair growth and darkening gray hairs.
· Digestive: Acts as a powerful stimulant for a sluggish digestive tract, helping to ease bloating, gas, and stomach cramps.
· Respiratory: Its camphoraceous notes make it an effective decongestant. It helps clear the airways and acts as an antiseptic for the throat and chest during seasonal illness.
· Perspiration: Sage is uniquely known for its ability to reduce excessive sweating and is a frequent ingredient in natural deodorants.
Emotional Benefit
Sage is the "Oil of Inner Wisdom." It is for those who feel mentally scattered, indecisive, or burdened by "negative self-talk." It helps to clear the mental clutter, allowing one to tap into their own intuition and life experience. Sage provides the mental fortitude to process difficult information and encourages a sense of courage and spiritual maturity.
