RAVINTSARA
Ravintsara
Botanical Name: Cinnamomum camphora Botanical Family: Lauraceae
Quick Facts
· Extraction Method: Steam Distillation
· Part Used: Leaves
· Aroma Note: Top
The Profile
Ravintsara is often confused with its cousin Ravensara aromatica, but they are distinct oils. This oil comes from the Camphor tree grown in Madagascar. While the same tree grown in China produces Camphor or Ho Wood, the Madagascan climate causes the tree to produce an oil high in 1,8-cineole, making it smell very similar to Eucalyptus but with a much softer, "greener," and more peppery finish. It is often called the "Madagascan Eucalyptus" and is considered one of the most versatile and safe antiviral oils available.
Therapeutic Actions
Anticatarrhal, Anti-infectious, Antiviral, Antibacterial, Expectorant, Immune Stimulant, Neurotonic, Stimulant (circulatory).
Usage & Benefits
· Immune System: Ravintsara is arguably the most powerful antiviral oil in the aromatherapy toolkit. It is the gold standard for treating the flu, glandular fever, and shingles. It doesn't just fight the virus; it stimulates the body's own defense mechanisms.
· Respiratory: Exceptional for clearing "stuck" mucus. It is highly effective for sinusitis, rhinitis, and productive coughs. Because it is milder than Eucalyptus, it is often better tolerated for long-term respiratory support.
· Nervous System: It is a superb neurotonic. While it is physically stimulating, it is emotionally calming. It is excellent for "nervous debility"—that state where you are so tired you can’t sleep.
· Muscular: Helps relieve joint pain and muscular tension, especially when the pain is accompanied by a feeling of "heaviness."
Emotional Benefit
Ravintsara is the "Oil of Internal Strength." It is perfect for those who feel "vaporized" by stress or who feel they have no mental space left. It clears the "clutter" and provides a clean, fresh perspective. It is a "reset button" for the mind, helping you find your center when the world feels chaotic.
The "At Home" Remedies
1. The "Air Purifier" Spray: During flu season, mix 20 drops of Ravintsara and 10 drops of Lemon in 100ml of water. Shake and spray throughout the house to kill airborne viruses and keep the family healthy.
2. Viral "First Aid" Chest Rub: Mix 3 drops of Ravintsara and 2 drops of Frankincense in 10ml of carrier oil. Rub into the chest and back at the very first sign of a tickly throat or body aches.
3. The "Better Breath" Pillow Drop: Place 1 drop of Ravintsara on a tissue and place it near your pillow if you have a blocked nose at night. It is less likely to sting the eyes than Eucalyptus.
Synergy Blend
The "Immune Shield" Blend Diffuse to strengthen the body’s defenses and clear the head
· 4 drops Ravintsara
· 3 drops Tea Tree
· 3 drops Eucalyptus Radiata
Blending Partners
Bergamot, Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Geranium, Ginger, Lavender, Lemon, Rosemary, and Tea Tree.
Safety Data, Warnings, & Precautions
Ravintsara is remarkably safe and gentle for an oil so powerful. It is non-toxic, non-irritant, and non-sensitizing. However, because of its high cineole content, it should be used with caution around small children (keep it away from the face/nose) and avoided by those with asthma unless they know it doesn't trigger a reaction.
Available sizes: 13ml
