NIAOULI
Niaouli
Botanical Name: Melaleuca viridiflora Botanical Family: Myrtaceae
Quick Facts
· Extraction Method: Steam Distillation
· Part Used: Leaves and Twigs
· Aroma Note: Top to Middle
The Profile
Niaouli is a large evergreen tree native to Australia, New Caledonia, and the French Pacific Islands. It is a close relative of Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), but it has a much sweeter, more camphorous, and slightly "piercing" aroma. In France, it is highly regarded in pharmaceutical preparations and is often called Gomenol. It is a powerhouse of an oil—intensely antiseptic and tissue-stimulating—yet generally considered less irritating to the skin than many of its camphorous cousins.
Therapeutic Actions
Analgesic, Anthelmintic, Antirheumatic, Antiseptic, Antispasmodic, Bactericidal, Cicatrizant, Diaphoretic, Expectorant, Febrifuge, Insecticide, Stimulant, Vermifuge.
Usage & Benefits
· Skin: Acne, boils, burns, cuts, insect bites, and oily skin. It is exceptionally effective at cleansing infected wounds and promoting the growth of new tissue (cicatrizant).
· Respiratory: Asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, coughs, sinusitis, and sore throats. It is a fantastic expectorant that clears the head and chest rapidly.
· Genito-Urinary: Cystitis and urinary tract infections. It is also used to treat vaginal infections and leucorrhea.
· Circulatory/Muscular: Poor circulation, rheumatism, and arthritis. It helps to warm the area and increase blood flow to stiff joints.
· Immune System: Colds, flu, and viral infections. It is a potent immune stimulant, particularly useful at the very first sign of a "scratchy" throat.
Emotional Benefit
Niaouli is the "Oil of Awakening." It is used to clear "psychic fog" and mental lethargy. It is particularly helpful for people who feel overwhelmed by their circumstances and have become "numb" or detached. It revives the spirits, sharpens the intellect, and helps provide the mental clarity needed to make difficult decisions.
The "At Home" Remedies
1. The "Winter Warrior" Inhalation: At the first sign of a cold, add 3 drops of Niaouli and 2 drops of Eucalyptus to a bowl of steaming water. Inhale for 5 minutes to open the sinuses and kill airborne bacteria.
2. Skin Protection (Radiotherapy): Niaouli is famously used (in very low dilutions) to protect the skin from radiation burns during medical treatments. Consult a professional for specific protocols.
3. Foot Hygiene Spray: Mix 10 drops of Niaouli and 10 drops of Tea Tree in 50ml of water. Spray on feet and inside shoes to prevent fungal infections and neutralize odors.
Synergy Blend
The "Deep Defense" Blend Diffuse during times of illness to purify the air and support the household's immunity
· 4 drops Niaouli
· 3 drops Lemon
· 3 drops Tea Tree
Blending Partners

Safety Data, Warnings, & Precautions
Generally non-toxic, non-irritant, and non-sensitizing. However, because it is a very powerful stimulant and contains high cineole content, it should be avoided by those with epilepsy or high blood pressure. Avoid use during pregnancy. Always perform a patch test before topical application.
