Macadamia

Botanical Name: Macadamia integrifolia Botanical Family: Proteaceae

Quick Facts

·         Method: Cold Pressed

·         Texture/Absorption: Medium-rich but surprisingly fast-absorbing; it has a smooth, buttery feel.

·         Color: Clear to pale golden.

The Profile

Macadamia oil is expressed from the nut of the Macadamia tree, native to Australia. In aromatherapy, it is highly valued for its high concentration of Palmitoleic acid—a fatty acid that naturally occurs in our skin but decreases as we age. Its excellent for older or very dry skin, while its protective qualities mirror the skin's natural sebum.

Nutrient Profile

Macadamia is a rare plant source of Palmitoleic acid (Omega-7), which is deeply restorative. It is also high in Oleic acid (Omega-9), Vitamin E, and Phytosterols, which help to calm inflammation and support the skin's structural integrity.

Skin & Body Benefits

·         Face: A "must-have" for mature or parched skin. It helps to replenish lost moisture and is particularly effective for the delicate skin around the eyes and mouth.

·         Body: Excellent for massage when the skin is particularly dry or "thirsty." It provides a wonderful glide but "vanishes" into the skin, so you aren't left feeling sticky.

·         Hair: Highly beneficial for dry or damaged hair. Its weight allows it to penetrate the hair follicles and scalp, helping to strengthen hair from the inside out.

The "At Home" Uses

1.      Restorative Night Oil: Blend 2 drops of Neroli or Sandalwood into 10ml of Macadamia oil. Apply to the face and neck before bed for deep overnight nourishment.

2.      After-Sun Body Butter: Mix Macadamia oil with a little Aloe Vera gel to soothe and rehydrate skin that has been exposed to salt water or sun.

Ideal For Blending

Because it is so stable and skin-compatible, it makes a perfect base for anti-aging serums and therapeutic body oils. It pairs beautifully with "heavy" florals like Ylang Ylang or grounding woody oils like Cedarwood.

Safety, Precautions & Storage

·         Safety: Nut Allergy Warning. This oil is derived from a tree nut and should be avoided by anyone with a macadamia or general tree nut allergy. It is generally very mild and non-irritating for others.

·         Storage: Macadamia oil is very stable due to its low polyunsaturated fat content. It has a long shelf life of approximately 18 to 24 months if stored in a cool, dark place.

Available Sizes: 50ml, 100ml, 500ml
