·         Extraction Method: Steam Distillation

·         Part Used: Fresh or Partially Dried Grass

·         Aroma Note: Top to Middle

The Profile

Lemon Grass is a fast-growing, tall, aromatic perennial grass that flourishes in tropical climates. While it is a staple in Asian cuisine, its essential oil is a powerhouse in aromatherapy. The aroma is intensely lemony and fresh, but with a distinct grassy, herbaceous, and slightly earthy undertone that sets it apart from the fruit-based Lemon oil. It is incredibly potent—a little goes a very long way. Historically, it has been used in Indian traditional medicine to treat infectious illnesses and fevers.

Therapeutic Actions

Analgesic, Antidepressant, Antimicrobial, Antiseptic, Antiviral, Astringent, Bactericidal, Carminative, Deodorant, Febrifuge, Fungicidal, Galactagogue, Insecticide, Nervine, Sedative (nervous system), Tonic.

Usage & Benefits

·         Skin: Large pores, acne, and athlete’s foot. It acts as a powerful toner for open pores and helps to tighten the skin tissues.

·         Respiratory: Not its primary use, but it can be used in a diffuser to help clear the air during a bout of the flu.

·         Digestive: Helps with flatulence and stimulates the digestive system. It can also be massaged (heavily diluted) onto the abdomen to help with "nervous" indigestion.

·         Circulatory/Muscular: Muscular aches, pains, and sports injuries. It is famous for its ability to help repair connective tissue and ligaments. It also helps move lactic acid out of the muscles after heavy exercise.

·         Immune System: An excellent oil for "cooling" a fever and helping the body fight off infectious diseases.

·         Nervous System: Helps with nervous exhaustion and stress-related conditions. It is uniquely both a sedative (to the nerves) and a stimulant (to the mind).

Emotional Benefit

Lemon Grass is the "Oil of Cleansing." It is a powerful energetic "purifier." It helps to clear out feelings of lethargy, despair, and "stagnant" energy. If you feel like you are carrying the "emotional baggage" of others, Lemongrass acts as a spiritual broom, sweeping away the old and making room for clarity and renewed purpose.

The "At Home" Remedies

1.       Post-Gym Muscle Soak: Mix 2 drops of Lemon Grass and 4 drops of Lavender with a cup of Epsom salts. Add to a bath to help soothe sore muscles and prevent next-day stiffness.

2.      Outdoor Bug Spray: Mix 10 drops of Lemon Grass with 50ml of water and a splash of witch hazel. Mist the air or your clothing to keep mosquitoes and flies at bay.

3.       Natural Floor Cleaner: Add 5 drops to your mop bucket with warm water and vinegar for an antibacterial floor wash that leaves the whole house smelling incredibly fresh.

Synergy Blend

The "Connective Comfort" Blend Massage into sore joints or over-stretched ligaments (in 1-2% dilution)

·         3 drops Sweet Marjoram
