EUCALYPTUS LEMON
Eucalyptus Lemon (Citriodora)
Botanical Name:Eucalyptus citriodoraBotanical Family: Myrtaceae
Quick Facts
· Extraction Method: Steam Distillation
· Part Used: Leaves and Twigs
· Aroma Note: Top
The Profile
Also known as the "Lemon-Scented Gum," this variety of Eucalyptus is native to Queensland, Australia. Unlike the medicinal, camphoraceous scent of its cousins, this oil has a powerful, fresh, and zesty lemon-like aroma with a sweet balsamic undertone. It is exceptionally high in citronellal, making it one of the most effective natural insect repellents and a potent antifungal agent.
Therapeutic Actions
Antifungal, Anti-inflammatory, Antiseptic, Antiviral, Bactericidal, Deodorant, Expectorant, Fungicidal, Hypoglycemic, Insecticide.
Usage & Benefits
· Skin: Athlete’s foot, fungal infections, dandruff, and many types of sores. It is excellent for balancing oily skin and is highly valued in natural deodorants.
· Respiratory: Asthma, laryngitis, and sore throats. While it lacks the high cineole content of Globulus, its anti-inflammatory properties make it very soothing for a dry, "tickly" throat.
· Digestive: Not typically used for digestion.
· Circulatory/Muscular: Arthritis, muscular aches, and pains. It is often used in blends to reduce inflammation in the joints.
· Immune System: Fever, infectious diseases, and as a preventative during cold and flu season.
Emotional Benefit
Eucalyptus Citriodora is the "Oil of Invigoration." It is highly revitalizing for a tired mind and helps to clear away negative energy that feels "heavy" or oppressive. It is especially useful for those who feel mentally sluggish or lack the motivation to start new projects, providing a bright, clean burst of enthusiasm.
The "At Home" Remedies
1. Ultimate Bug Repellent: Mix 10 drops of Eucalyptus Citriodora with 5 drops of Cedarwood in 50ml of witch hazel. Shake well and spray on ankles and wrists to keep ticks and mosquitoes away.
2. Antifungal Shoe Spray: Add 5 drops to 50ml of water and spray inside sneakers or work boots to eliminate odors and prevent the growth of fungal spores.
3. Soothing Throat Gargle: Add 1 drop to a glass of warm water with a pinch of salt. Gargle (do not swallow) to help soothe an inflamed, scratchy throat at the onset of a cold.
