ALMOND (SWEET)
Almond (Sweet)
Botanical Name: Prunus amygdalus var. dulcis Botanical Family: Rosaceae
Quick Facts
· Extraction Method: Cold Pressed
· Part Used: Kernels (Nuts)
· Aroma Note: Very Mild, Nutty (Low odor)
The Profile
Sweet Almond oil is arguably the most popular carrier oil in the world of aromatherapy. Unlike the "Bitter" variety, which can be toxic, Sweet Almond is a gentle, nutrient-dense oil that has been used for centuries in Mediterranean and Ayurvedic medicine. It is a pale yellow, medium-weight oil that strikes a perfect balance: it is rich enough to provide a smooth "glide" for massage, yet light enough to be absorbed relatively quickly without leaving a heavy, greasy residue. It is exceptionally high in Vitamin E, Vitamin A, and essential fatty acids (Oleic and Linoleic acid).
Therapeutic Actions
Emollient (softening), Anti-inflammatory, Sclerosant (vein support), Nutritive, Cicatrisant (scar-healing), Demulcent.
Usage & Benefits
· Skin Care: The "Skin-Silk" specialist. It is a powerhouse for treating dry, flaky, or irritated skin. Because it is so similar to the skin's natural sebum, it helps strengthen the skin barrier and prevent moisture loss.
· Massage Therapy: Its "medium" viscosity makes it the gold standard for full-body massage. It stays on the skin surface long enough for a 30-minute session but eventually sinks in to nourish the muscles.
· Sensitive Skin & Babies: It is so mild that it is often the first choice for infant massage and treating cradle cap or diaper rash.
· Scarring & Stretch Marks: Regularly massaging Sweet Almond oil into the skin can help improve elasticity and reduce the appearance of stretch marks and surgical scars.
· Hair & Scalp: It is rich in Biotin (Vitamin B7). Massaging it into the scalp helps loosen dead skin cells (dandruff) and provides a protective coating for hair strands to reduce frizz.
Emotional Benefit
Sweet Almond is the "Oil of Nurturing." While essential oils provide the "spirit" of a blend, the carrier oil provides the "body" and the "embrace." It is for those who feel physically depleted or emotionally "thin-skinned." It represents stability and fundamental care. In a treatment, it provides a sense of being "held" and supported, allowing the nervous system to drop from a state of high alert into one of deep, grounded safety.
The "At Home" Remedies
1. The "Glow" Body Oil: Mix 100ml of Sweet Almond oil with 10 drops of Lavender and 5 drops of Geranium. Apply to damp skin after a shower for all-day hydration.
2. Natural Makeup Remover: Apply a few drops to a cotton pad to gently dissolve waterproof mascara and foundation without stripping the skin's natural oils.
3. Cuticle Rescue: Rub a single drop into your nail beds every night to prevent hangnails and strengthen brittle nails.
Synergy Blend
The "Mother & Baby" Soothing Blend A gentle, safe dilution for calming the skin and the senses
· 30ml Sweet Almond Oil
· 2 drops Chamomile
· 2 drops Lavender
Blending Partners
As a carrier oil, it is a neutral "canvas" that blends perfectly with all essential oils. It is particularly effective at carrying floral oils (like Rose and Jasmine) and citrus oils (like Lemon and Orange) deep into the dermis.
Safety Data, Warnings, & Precautions
ALLERGY WARNING: Individuals with nut allergies should avoid Sweet Almond oil entirely. A safe alternative for those with nut sensitivities is Grapeseed or Apricot Kernel oil. It has a shelf life of about 1–2 years; keep it in a cool, dark place to prevent rancidity.
Available sizes:
50ml, 100ml, 500ml
